Dieric Bouts was a Netherlandish painter who worked in Leuven from 1457 until 1475 when he passed away. He was one of the first northern painters to reveal the application of a single vanishing point.
''The Fall of the Damned'', (1470), is an oil on panel painting which was completed in 1470. It was originally a part of the Last Judgement triptych which was comissioned in 1468 by the town of Louvain and based on Genesis 2:10, Book of Revelation and The Purgatory of Saint-Patrick. It is currently exposed in the palais des Beaux-Arts de Lille. Only a character out of the painting was used for the design of these socks.
