Memento Mori by Julie de Graag
Julie de Graag (1877–1924) was a Dutch artist known for her refined woodcuts, drawings, and watercolors. Trained at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in The Hague, she was influenced by Art Nouveau and early modernist styles. She focused on floral motifs, animals, portraits, and village scenes, often using strong contrasts and simplified forms. De Graag worked with end grain wood for her prints, showcasing technical mastery and precision. Despite her talent, she struggled with depression and died by suicide in 1924. Her works are held in major Dutch museums, and she is recognized for her delicate yet powerful style.
