Lovell Birge Harrison (1854-1929) was an American Tonalism landscape painter, writer and teacher.A nostalgic mood and limited color palette are elements that define his paintings throughout his whole career.
He studied at Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts in 1874 and then at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris.
Landscape Painting was a book that was published in 1909 after Harrison's lectures. It was referred as a ''standard work for students'' and ''a fine commentary on the technique of the craft.'' Harrison is remembered as an American leading writer on contemporary landscape painting of his era.
